You were supposed to fly away with me to Paris on Wednesday morning, the 20th of July. We made reservations at Ladurée Champs Elysees, where we would bring along a box of macaroons for my mother. Afterwords we would stroll together trough the beautiful streets of Paris. You were supposed to fly away with me to Paris, but you didn’t..
By the time we reached the airport it was clear to me. We weren’t flying away together to Paris. Instead you looked me in the eye and said to the air hostess: ‘Madam our destination is Venice.‘ I think I’ve jumped and screamed at least a couple of times. I even let you pinch me. We were just one hour away of flying off to Venice, and without any preparations we just took off to Italy for the most adventurous day ever.
During the entire flight to Marco Polo airport, and even during the boat ride to San Marco the excitement was beyond real. I loved this city ever since I can remember. Ever since my mom told me that dad took her to Venice during their honeymoon. Ever since they took me to Venice to witness the beauty in real. And now a week later, Venice is more than just special to me. It’s the place that made me realize that fairytales do not exist. Instead it’s something we create ourselves, out of love for each other. It’s the place where magic spread her beauty in every canal, bridge, street and corner. It’s the place where I said YES to a lifetime of rare moments with my best friend.
You were supposed to fly away with me to Paris, but I’m glad you didn’t.
