It’s has become a weekly ritual for us to have a cup of coffee. Even after this shoot we went for coffee and of course cake, yummyy! During these (I call it ‘coffee moments’) we usually catch up on each other’s lives. But some topics leave us with some interesting questions where we can further think about.
What I enjoy most about these ‘coffee moments’ are the unexpected topics where we mostly don’t even think about. Yesterday’s coffee date is a great example of it. During our chit and chat, somehow the topic; loyalty came up. Mel and I were having an interesting discussion about love and loyalty. You must be wondering, what’s the connection with these two? Well, everything! We automatically expect from the people near us, the people we are close to, the people we care about. That they will stay loyal to us. If not, it feels like a true stab in the back. But the interesting question is; why do we expect this? Is it because of the bond, the connection and the trust we have in our loved ones. Or is it because we don’t expect any betrayal from insiders, but from outsiders. Why is it unlikely to even imagine that we can be betrayed from someone we care about. I wonder, are we loyal because we receive something. Or are we loyal, because it’s something our heart tell us to. You can buy your way into loyalty, that’s for sure. No, you just simply earn it. But we might expect too much from others. Or maybe we are afraid of being truly honest with each other and ourselves. I wonder if loyalty brings us together or rip us apart.
‘‘Loyalty is a two-way street. If I’m asking for it from you, then you’re getting if from me.” – Harvey Specter, Suits.
